Attendees of the WCWA's 2017 Eastern Washington School of the Soldier event held April 28-30 at Union Gap, Washington, were delighted by the latest addition to the artillery brigade, a 3" ordinance rifle, owned and crewed by the Sink family of Thompson Falls, Montana.
The Sinks have been actively involved in 1770's reenacting and competition black powder shooting, and this is their first Civil War impression. Their experience and enthusiasm will be a great addition to the WCWA. They haven't decided yet exactly what unit they will portray ... possibly a Pennsylvania one since Wesley hails from Pennsylvania.
The cannon was supplied by Glen Mattox of the Antique Gun Shoppe in Post Falls, Idaho and was built in 1961 by Rudy Marek of Banks, Oregon. This Model 1861 3" ordinance rifle features a rifled barrel, original wheels and axle (over 150 years old!), and superb machining and woodwork on the reproduction parts.
